Discovery and due diligence without the document chaos.

Request exactly the emails, contracts and records you need from clients — tracked per item, versioned and defensible.

The problem

Legal work runs on documents produced by clients and third parties, yet email destroys version control and risks privilege, while data rooms quickly become dumping grounds. Clivanta lets you request specific documents, track each one to receipt, and keep a clean, defensible chain of custody. You always know precisely what was asked for, who provided it, and when — without hunting through thousands of files.

  • Discovery requests answered by email, with no version control or privilege trail
  • Virtual data rooms that are dumping grounds rather than tracked request lists
  • Hunting through thousands of files for the one missing agreement
  • No defensible record of what was requested and when it arrived

Where it fits

Litigation discovery (e-discovery)

Request specific emails, contracts and communications from a client as individual tracked items, with every version kept rather than overwritten. You can see at a glance what has been produced and what is still outstanding, with a defensible record of each.

M&A due diligence

Instead of dumping everything into a data room, request the specific missing items — the updated non-compete for the VP of Sales, the signed board consent — and see exactly what is still outstanding across the deal checklist.

IP management

Collect inventor logs, prior-art references and proof of first use for patent and trademark filings on an ongoing basis, each tracked to receipt so nothing a filing depends on slips.

Corporate governance

Gather board consents, conflict-of-interest declarations and annual renewal documents from directors and stakeholders on schedule, with reminders that chase the stragglers for you.

How Clivanta handles it

The same reliable loop, whatever you're collecting.

Per-item requests

Every ask is its own tracked item with a status, due date, files and version history.

Reusable packs

Standardise a request list once and launch it for every client, matter or vendor.

Automatic reminders

Escalating, per-item reminders chase what's outstanding so you don't have to.

Portal or reply-by-email

Counterparts upload through a magic-link portal, or simply reply by email.

Immutable audit trail

Every request, upload, version and acceptance is logged with actor and timestamp.

Scoped, secure access

Each party sees only their own items; internal notes and threads stay private.

Frequently asked questions

Does it preserve privilege and chain of custody?

Yes. Each request is scoped to only the parties you choose, every action is recorded in an insert-only log, and uploaded versions are never overwritten. The result is a defensible chain of custody for documents produced in discovery or diligence — you can always show exactly what was requested, who provided it, and when.

Can we request specific documents during discovery?

Yes. In Clivanta each document, email or record is its own tracked request, so you can ask a client to produce precisely the items relevant to a matter and see instantly which are still outstanding. This replaces the open-ended 'send us everything' approach that buries the relevant material in noise and creates privilege risk.

How does it compare to a virtual data room?

A virtual data room (VDR) stores and shares files; Clivanta runs the request-and-response loop around them. Instead of hunting through thousands of uploaded documents for the one missing agreement, you request specific items and Clivanta tracks each to receipt. For M&A due diligence in particular, that means chasing named gaps rather than policing a dumping ground.

Are earlier versions kept for the record?

Yes. When a revised document is uploaded it becomes a new immutable version with its own uploader and timestamp, and the earlier version is retained rather than replaced. In litigation and diligence, being able to reconstruct exactly what a party provided, and when, can matter as much as the final document itself.

Can outside parties respond without an account?

Yes. Opposing parties, clients and other third parties open a secure portal through a magic link with no signup, or they can reply to the request by email. Their submissions are routed to the correct item automatically and logged, so low-friction responses never come at the cost of your record.
